Two computer names that would soon revolutionize the computer world with their use of graphical user interface (GUI).

 

TIMELINE FOR MAC & WINDOWS…AND THE COMPUTER

  • June 1982…John Carpenter’s The Thing theatrical release.  
  • January 1983…The Computer is TIME’S Machine Of The Year for 1982.
  • Summer 1983…Superman III’s theatrical release. The movie’s ignorant script involves computers.  Very ignorant.
  • Early 1984…Apple Computer introduces the Macintosh, also known as Mac, a computer with a graphical user interface. 
  • Later in 1984…In six months, sales of the Mac reach 100,000.
  • 1985…Microsoft Windows 1.0 is shipped.
  • 1986…Bill Gates, president and chairman of the board of Microsoft, becomes the world’s youngest billionaire.
  • 1987…Microsoft introduces Windows 2.0.
  • 1988…Apple files a copyright infringement lawsuit against Microsoft for Windows 2.0.
  • 1990…Microsoft releases Windows 3.0, which uses a graphical user interface. 
  • 1992…Bill Gates becomes the second richest person in the United States, with an estimated net worth of $4 billion
  • 1995…Microsoft releases Windows 95, which sells 1 million copies in the first four days of its release.
  • 1996…Bill Gates is the richest man in the United States, with a net worth of $18 billion.
  • 1997…Bill Gates is the world’s richest businessman, with an estimated net worth of $36.4 billion.
  • 1998…Bill Gates is likely the world’s richest person, with an estimated net worth of more than $60 billion.

Note:  Just because I mentioned Superman III here among the list of events involving the computer world and its history from 1982 thru 1998…doesn’t mean I’m recommending watching the film…or even trying to watch or rewatch the film.  Here recently I tried rewatching a little bit of the movie for the sake of being curious…and no, it didn’t work out.  No…it’s really bad.

Note:  I’ve watched and rewatched Superman II many times throughout my life.  Once when it was in the theaters and many other times using a device called the VCR…and even a few times using a DVD player.  If my memory serves me correctly, one of those times was during a particularly low point in my life when I decided to rewatch it for some mysterious reason.  Not believing in God and not having any kind of a relationship with Him can make anyone an imbecile.  Just saying.

Can A.I. Be Trusted?

On December 27, 2025, I asked AI a couple of questions:

  • Does A.I. give different answers to the exact same question but from different people?
  • If A.I. gives different answers to the exact same question but from different people, then can A.I. be trusted?

The answers I got were quite interesting…

My first question:  Does A.I. give different answers to the exact same question but from different people?

A.I.’s response:  Yes, AI often gives different answers to the same question, even from different people or the same person at different times, due to built-in randomness (stochasticity), busy server loads, different model versions, varying contexts, and unique prompts, making each response a fresh generation rather than a database retrieval. This variability stems from AI’s probabilistic nature, aiming for creative, human-like output, but can be controlled with settings like “temperature” for more consistent results

 

My second question:  If A.I. gives different answers to the exact same question but from different people, then can A.I. be trusted?

A.I.’s response:  No, an AI’s differing answers to the same question mean you can’t fully trust it without verification, as variations stem from its probabilistic nature, system load, and training data, making it a creative tool needing critical cross-checking with reliable sources, not an infallible oracle. Treat it as a starting point, not the final word, by asking multiple times, checking facts, and being skeptical of confident-sounding answers, especially for crucial information, because it generates patterns, not absolute truths.
