DGA Winners. The 1990’s. Forrest Gump

Forrest Gump…without Tom Hanks, director Robert Zemeckis might not have won the DGA award.  Others along with Tom Hanks helped Mr. Zemeckis win that DGA award, along with a Best Director Oscar for directing the year’s Best Picture winner.  Others…like Eric Roth, Don Burgess, Gary Sinise, Creedence Clearwater, Jimi Hendrix, Buffalo Springfield, Lynyrd Skynrd, Jackson Browne, Bob Seger, Alan Silvestri and other musical artists…along with visual effects experts and sound effects editors…helped Zemeckis win those two movie awards for directing Forrest Gump.  Not to mention the Creator of that mountain-lake.

Another interesting (& peculiar) thing to know about Forrest Gump is how upset Tom Hanks was when the band played that movie’s theme at the 2006 Oscars as he approached the stage to present the year’s Best Director Oscar.  Forrest Gump made Tom Hanks millions, as the movie sold more tickets than any other movie Hanks has starred in.  Which is interesting because between 1992 and early 2001, Tom Hanks starred in eleven hit movies.  Eleven hit movies in less than a decade.  And Forrest Gump is at the top of that list, not at the bottom…but yet he showed no appreciation for the movie’s success.  In fact, he seemed to have despised it that Oscar night in 2006.  Again, Forrest Gump was not at the bottom of that list.
